WATCH: Irish and Northern Irish Football explained in one brilliant sketch

Conor Heneghan

‘Keep it simple and slag off the English.’

Euro 2016 is the first time that the Ireland and Northern Ireland football teams have competed in the same international tournament.

Football fans in these parts need no explanation as to why there are two international teams on one little island, but you can imagine that outsiders with little or no understanding of our political history might need to be brought up to speed.

With that in mind, a Tight Shorts sketch on the BBC Northern Ireland Facebook page has endeavoured to try and explain exactly what’s going on to outsiders, only to further confuse matters when delving a little deeper.

Light-hearted, informative and very amusing, ‘Irish and Northern Irish Football explained’ is well worth a few minutes of your time.

Take the line below for instance.

‘Ulster, of course, consists of nine counties, three in the Republic of Ireland, including Donegal, which can now be regarded as up north and down south at the same time.’

Nicely played.
