Ireland’s win last night was the highest-rating programme of the year on RTÉ

The country ground to a halt last night.

Did you hear? Ireland were playing in the Euros last night.

You may not have heard much about it because the whole event has gone relatively under the radar…

Well, we beat the dang Italians last night to earn our spot in the last 16 of the tournament where we will take on the hosts France.

Robbie Brady’s now historic strike earned Ireland their first win at a major tournament since we beat Saudi Arabia all the way back in 2002.

The match was RTÉ’s most viewed programme of the year so far with an average of 1.23m viewers.

The audience peaked in the final minute of the game with a whopping 1.45m tuning in to hear the ref finally blow that feckin’ whistle.

But it seems that Eamon Dunphy and co were the men of the hour as the audience reached its highest spot of 1.47m when they reflected on the game.

Last night’s live game and post-match analysis were the two highest-rating television programmes of the year to date on RTÉ.

Added to this, 790,000 tweets were sent during the #ITAIRL game last night.

There was only one thing on peoples minds last night…
