Make euros from the Euro 2016 final: A betting preview

JOE

And then there were two, France v Portugal.

Here’s the overview: the French are favourites (11/10) and understandably so. Their performance against the Germans in the semi-final was nothing short of outstanding. The hero from that win, Antoine Griezmann, leads the first goalscorer market at 4/1.

His main challenger for the player of the tournament gong, Dimitri Payet, is 7/1 to get the first goal.

Portugal’s victory over Wales was impressive, but to put it in perspective, that was the Portuguese’s first win over 90 minutes at the tournament and it was against a Welsh side missing their main creative force in midfield. This is reflected in their 7/2 price.

Sure to be a popular bet, Cristiano Ronaldo is priced at 5/1 to get the first goal. His teammate Nani has had a fantastic tournament thus far and is 9/1.

We think Portugal will have to wait for their first majour trophy. They are quite simply not a fantastic side; draws against Hungary and Iceland in the group stage reflected this.

France should have far too much, so we’re backing them on the -1 handicap, which is priced at 10/3.
