Hip-hop hurray!
Last weekend was most definitely a sporting one but if you’re looking for your next TV binge then we have just the thing for you. We’ve been keeping our eye on The Get Down for quite some time now because the list of talent associated with Netflix’s most expensive show is remarkable.
The Get Down is the story of New York. In an atmosphere of social unrest, political division, post-Vietnam guilt and bankruptcy, a new art form emerged from the streets of NYC, hip-hop.
Set in New York in 1977, this music-driven drama series chronicles the rise of hip-hop and the last days of disco – told through the lives, music, art and dance of the South Bronx kids who would change the world forever.

Visionary director Baz Luhrmann is the conductor of this remarkable hip-hop orchestra and very few filmmakers can combine iconic music, engaging storytelling and stunning visuals quite like he does. After all, he did direct Moulin Rouge, Romeo + Juliet, Simply Ballroom and The Great Gatsby.
What’s remarkable about The Get Down though is the authenticity of its music, this is mainly due to the fact that Nas and Grandmaster Flash are on board to ensure that the beats remain true.
The show is available on Netflix and it has already won plenty of fans. If you’re a music fan then we highly recommend it.
