Dublin is a city of romance. The hometown of Joyce and Yeats, the metropolis is the perfect background for any love story. All you need is someone to enjoy it with.
If you’ve recently met someone (good for you!) but forgot to get their number (d’oh!), don’t worry. JOE has teamed up with good folks at Vhi Dental to give you the chance to let your crush know you’re interested.
Each week we will be giving people the chance to reach out to their dream man/woman in our new feature, Vhi Friday Flirt.
Who needs Facebook stalking when you can send JOE a brief description of the person, where you met them, and other details you think might be important. Send those to editorial@joe.ie
In the meantime we’ve compiled a short list of our favourite romantic spots….
1. The Whitefriar Street Church

The final resting place of Saint Valentine is a pilgrimage for lovers and tourists alike.
The relics of the patron saint of romance were donated to the church in the 19th century by Pope Gregory XVI. This was due to a tradition from the 19th century where local churches around the world were given relics from the catacombs in Rome. Nowadays couples pay homage to the late Saint in the hopes of receiving good luck for their relationship.
2. Iveagh Gardens

An oasis of serenity in the city center ideal for a romantic stroll. The gardens were designed by Ninian Niven in 1863 who included a grotto, fountains, maze, wilderness and woodlands into the relatively small space. Nowadays the gardens are used for festivals and one-off concerts but their primary function is to provide a place of respite from the city for couples and families.
3. Howth Head

In fiction, this is the location where James Joyce’s hero Leopold Bloom proposes to Molly in Ulysses. In reality, it’s one of the nicest stretches of land in the country. There’s nothing like a nice walk along a gorgeous windswept ocean view with someone special by your side. Howth Head is a place of rare beauty with a sense of magic in the air.
4. National Gallery of Ireland

Located just off Merrion Square, the National Gallery of Ireland houses some of the most beautiful works of art on the island of Ireland. All the big hitters are there including Picasso, Goya, Rembrandt and most recently an exhibition on DaVinci’s notebooks. Breathe in the romance while you enjoy depictions of lovers and muses immortalized in the paintings of Caravaggio and Picasso for all of history to see.
5. Love Lane

Love Lane in Temple Bar is an alley way beside the Olympia where love is king. There’s a street art aesthetic to the lane with DIY mosaics and romantic quotes spray painted on the walls. It’s one of the most special places in Dublin and a serene ideal detour the next time you and your sweetheart are strolling through the city center.
