PICS: The Mayo for Sam campaign has officially gone to ridiculous heights

Paul Moore

Will they be scaling the Hogan stand though?

It’s All-Ireland week and you know what that involves. Over the top demonstrations of county pride that would even make John Mullane look like he’s sitting on the fence.

Only kidding John, we know that you love your county.

The Mayo for Sam campaign has been in full force since 1951 and while Stephen Rochford’s side will be hoping to end their 65 year drought, they face a tough task in beating the reigning champions Dublin.

Mayo’s cause will be helped by their always boisterous supporters though and some of them have gone to ridiculous heights to show their support.

JOE readers Martin Lavelle and Brendan Carey tell us that they managed to plant a flag that’s 55m high as they scaled a pylon which conducts 275,000 volts of electricity.

SDon’t try this at home folks because the two men are professionals with ERRIS Power Lines. They say that “the Mayo flag in Tyrone got a few horns beeping from the passing traffic below”.

Take a look.

On a similar vertigo-inducing theme, Damien Forde took this photo at the top of Nephin, Lahardane.
