A double act should be stronger together than they are apart.
Every duo knows this and a strong duo united by a common cause is one of the strongest bonds imaginable. Just ask Batman and Robin or Simon and Garfunkel.
We’ve compiled a list of our favourite Irish double acts and there’s also a poll at the end so you can vote for your favourite.
D’Unbelievables

Pat Shortt and John Kenny are funny men apart but together they’re an unstoppable two-headed comedy superbeast.
Their beautifully observed comedy about small-town life and the big characters that inhabit them gave birth to a thousand catchphrases and impressions.

Gary and Paul O’Donovan
The boys may have come second in the Olympics, but they came first in our affections.
Even since we first saw their casual interview style where one brother nips off to dry retch while the other keeps the patter going, we knew that this was duo was a force to be reckoned with.

Jedward

It’s hard to remember a world without John and Edward Grimes there to buoy our spirits.
The brothers first exploded onto the scene in 2009 on The X Factor. Their musical style isn’t terribly polished or even that pleasant to listen to, but their sheer enthusiasm charmed the entire world.
Here they are rebooting Ghostbusters back before it was popular.

Zig and Zag

Honorary Irishmen by way of the Planet Zog, Zig and Zag were rude dudes with attitude in a nation that was crying out for a bit of anarchy.
They taught a whole generation of Irish children to mock authority and gleefully rip the piss out of anyone who took themselves too seriously. They also knew a thing or two about a funky beat and cool dance moves.

Gráinne and Síle Seoige

They’re Irish broadcasting royalty and an example to siblings everywhere.
The Seoige sisters are clever, funny and great at their jobs. No offence to the rest of the list, but they’d handily beat anyone else in a table quiz. Not only that but they’re also exceptionally glamorous and exude soundness.
Dunphy and Giles

The Statler and Waldorf of Irish punditry, Dunphy and Giles are an Irish institution.
Whether they were in full agreement or at each other’s throats, the pair showed us that you can be friends with someone while also disagreeing with them on principal 90% of the time. Here’s Eamo giving his bestest mate Gilesy an emotional send off from RTE, calling him “the greatest football man we’ve ever had.”

John and Francis Brennan
People who do their jobs well are always easy to admire, and in the hotel game there’s nobody better than John and Francis Brennan.
When they’re not running their highly successful five star hotel in Kenmare, they’re lending a helping hand to struggling businesses across the country.
The brothers clearly love each other a lot and the easy-going rapport between lovable-motormouth Francis and the more steadfast John is a thing of TV beauty.

Foster and Allen

These giants of folk started in the 1960s and haven’t slowed down since.
The musical legends have toured just about everywhere on planet earth and their music has inspired a legion of loyal fans.

Biddy and Miley
Here’s to Ireland’s first fictional couple and the stars of Glenroe.
Yes, Miley cheated on Biddy (boo!), but before that there was a lot of good times from Ireland’s most quintessentially Irish couple.
B.A. (Before Affair) they always had each others back and supported one another when the going gets tough. Don’t judge a relationship by one roll in the hay with a temptress sister-in-law.
Ted and Dougal

As much a part of our national DNA as Catholicism itself, Ted and Dougal are one of the greatest comedy acts in the history of comedy.
They’re stuck together on Craggy Island forever, but as Ted points out (to the permanently oblivious Dougal), they’re the best of friends.
