VIDEO: Bandon’s footballers return home to a surprise guard of honour from neighbouring club

Tony Cuddihy

West Cork was absolutely hopping at the weekend.

It’s been a hell of a week for Bandon GAA, as JOE reader Jen Corcoran has been telling us.

Following last week’s Premier Intermediate final victory for the town’s hurlers, this weekend saw the footballers win the intermediate county final and bag a unique double.

On their return home, Jen tells us how Bandon were met by, “a neighbouring club called Carbery Rangers, who played directly after Bandon in the senior county football final and won it for the first time ever in the history of their club!! But what they did on the way home really shows true sportsmanship…

“The Bandon boys were making their way to the GAA pavilion from town on the truck and the Carbery Rangers team were there to greet them with a guard of honour… it was absolutely remarkable!!”

Proper sportsmanship from the Rebel County. This, filmed by Catherine Collins, is how a GAA celebration is done…

Thanks to Jen Corcoran for sending this our way.
