Steven Gerrard pays tribute to Stephen McPhail; teases news on his own future

Tony Cuddihy

A nice message for Stephen McPhail from the former Liverpool captain.

It’s a few years now since Liverpool’s Steven Gerrard would have faced off against a young Stephen McPhail for Leeds United, but the former Reds captain has not forgotten the Irishman.

McPhail announced his retirement on Saturday at the age of 36, having finished his career back home with Shamrock Rovers.

Gerrard was quick to pay tribute.

Later on, Gerrard appeared to suggest that his time with LA Galaxy was coming to an end. Cue rumours of a return to Liverpool, most likely in a coaching capacity.

“Living in Los Angeles and playing for the great Galaxy supporters has been a privilege. You have made this place feel like home to me. This city and this club will always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you #8,” he wrote.
