The first-half between Ireland and Austria didn’t throw up too many talking points. Glenn Whelan went off injured and big Jon Walters missed an eye-opener from about three yards — but besides that the main thing people were talking about was Stoke City’s Marko Arnautovic spitting all over himself.

We certainly hope the second half is more exciting than the first, if for no other reason than it reduces the chances that the highlight reel features a footballer spitting into his beard.
