This looks a little begob and begorrah, but there seems to be a strong story at the centre of it.
Jim Sheridan, the legendary director of In The Name Of The Father and My Left Foot, has adapted Sebastian Barry’s The Secret Scripture for the screen and it looks promising.
A great cast includes Rooney Mara, Eric Bana, Jack Reynor, Vanessa Redgrave, Aidan Turner and Tom Vaughan-Lawlor.
We do detect a number of particularly Oirish accents here but, if you can look beyond that, this could be just as good as the similarly styled Atonement.
Plot’s it all about? Roseanna McNulty is a 100-year-old woman who has lived in a mental hospital in County Roscommon for almost half of her life.
She recalls a torrid past, and a love triangle between a priest and a fighter pilot.
There’s a dinger of a plot twist too.
