OFFICIAL: Ed Sheeran says that he’ll be on tour from March

Paul Moore

Music to the ears of Ed Sheeran fans.

Ed Sheeran has returned with a bang because aside from releasing his new album ÷ and promising that the video for his song Galway Girl will be filmed in Ireland, the singer has also given his fans the best possible news.

In a Facebook live chat with MTV, the Castle on The Hill and Thinking Out Loud singer was asked about the starting date for his next tour. Here’s what he said: “March. Pretty soon after the album. I don’t know when we’re coming with dates but I know we’re coming with dates soon. I definitely know it starts in March, in Europe”, he said.

While no official list of venues has been announced yet, we would be utterly amazed to see an Irish date omitted from Sheeran’s upcoming tour. The likable singer is one of the biggest draws for music fans in this country and he isn’t exactly shy about professing his love for Ireland and playing here.

Given that Coldplay and U2 are the only confirmed dates for Croke Park this summer, it’s not entirely inconceivable that Sheeran will be playing at GAA HQ’s again- in fact, some bookies even suspended betting on another Sheeran performance at Croker.

This being said, we would be amazed if U2 also didn’t announce another Irish date on The Joshua tree tour. Maybe Ed fancies a few nights at The Aviva, 3Arena, Thomond Park etc instead?

Over the next few days, we’re certain that fans of Sheeran will be glued to his website for an official announcement regarding the date and venues of his tour, but the singer did confirm that he won’t be playing at any U.K festival throughout the summer.

Here’s the interview in full (02:30 mark regarding his tour)
