Tupac and Biggie, Nas and Jay Z, Mozart and Salieri…
It looks like there’s a new, tense rivalry in the world of music to be added to the list: Westlife and Boyzone.
Keith Duffy of Boyzone has lashed out at Westlife’s Nicky Byrne and Kian Egan after the pair had reportedly expressed distaste for their former bandmate Brian McFadden joining Keith Duffy on a “Boyzlife” tour.
In a stinging attack in the Irish Sun, Duffy said:
“I don’t care what Kian and Nicky think about Boyzlife. Both of them take themselves way too seriously and have big egos.
“Shane Filan and Mark Feehily were the great singers in Westlife and Kian and Nick weren’t, but they go on as though they were brilliant. Westlife take themselves way too seriously.”
“Both Boyzone and Westlife played to screaming girls, we were pop bands,” Duffy said. “While myself and Brian acknowledge that, Kian and Nicky think they are Bob Dylan and U2, singing songs about humanity and saving the world. They need to chill out and start enjoying themselves.”
Duffy also threw in a casual little brag about how Boyzone are doing at the moment: “We’ve just signed a brand new deal with Warner Music for a new album and an arena tour.”
Your move, Westlife.
