It’s bumming out a lot of people…
When you think of Thomas the Tank Engine, immediately childhoods waiting for it to appear on screen come to mind. Thomas himself rolling along the tracks and the Fat Controller standing on the platform.
It’s most certainly not corporal punishment and burying trains alive (if a train can ever really be alive in the first place).
But in an old episode which has resurfaced on Twitter over the past week has all of the above, and it’s slightly tainted our view of the children’s show.
In the episode we see Henry the Green Engine ordered to be confined to a tunnel for “always, and always and always” because he refused to go out and work in the rain as he thought it would ruin his lovely paint.
“‘We shall take away your rails,’ the controller said. ‘And leave you here for always and always and always.'”
There's a Thomas the Tank episode where a stubborn train is punished by being entombed alive forever and it's worse than any horror movie pic.twitter.com/Bn1Y0PTItL

Yes, all of this happened in a children’s show, while the narrator says, “I think he deserved his punishment. Don’t you?”

There’s also another episode where a train is literally pulled apart by two other trains in a bizarre torture scene.
Thomas the Tank Engine is not quite as cute and loving as our original memory suggests…
