The trailer for Louis Theroux’s next three documentaries looks incredible

Three documentaries, one trailer.

Paul Moore

They start this Sunday. Start making your plans.

Over the course of his remarkable career as a broadcaster, Louis Theroux has introduced us to some notorious and hated characters via his documentaries.

For example, we’ve met the Westboro Baptist Church leader, Fred Phelps, serial paedophile Jimmy Saville, the founder of the White Aryan Resistance, Tom Metzger, and David Silver – a man that was serving 521 years plus 11 life sentences in prison.

Aside from having a superb interviewing style and genuine interest in his subjects, one of Theroux’s greatest attributes is that he never lets his own personal feelings shape how his documentaries unfold.

Simply put, Theroux just treats these people as people – for better or worse.

By not injecting his own ideas, beliefs or opinions into the process, the audience is treated to some remarkable footage as we get the chance to hear some remarkable and gripping stories.

As mentioned previously, Louis Theroux returns to BBC Two with three diverse new films, exploring American cities that face uniquely devastating challenges: murder, sex trafficking and opiate dependency.

Here’s a small introduction to some of the people that we’re about to meet. In the first episode, Louis spends time with the user community caught in the vice-like grip of drug misuse and follows the emergency services struggling to cope with multiple overdoses each day.

Dark States: Heroin Town starts at 21:00 on BBC2 this Sunday.

It looks fantastic.
