Here are the 7 best movies on the telly today

Rory Cashin

Another day, another World Cup-less TV night. So we’ve got some suggestions.

No, it isn’t Love Island, because that is already on your agenda, we’re sure.

There’s also the cinema, and if you are heading to the big screen, then we suggest you check out the latest episode of The Big Reviewski, where we’ve reviewed all of the new releases:

Sitting in? Then here are seven flicks to pick from:

MONDAY 9 JULY

Mud – Film 4 – 6.15pm

Another step in the McConnaissance (we’ll never be able to spell that correctly), as Matthew plays a bit of a country loner, who turns out to be on the run for murder, but some of the kids in the town he is hiding in want to reunite him with the love of his life, played by Reece Witherspoon.

Thor – E4 – 8.00pm

Not as good as Ragnarok, but better than The Dark World, this was our first introduction the God Of Thunder And Lightning, and is still pretty good fun, thanks to having the best and most villain in the MCU: Loki.

Due Date – Universal TV – 9.00pm

Robert Downey Jnr is forced into a cross-country road trip with Zach Galifianakis, to get to his about-to-give-birth wife after getting on the no-fly list. They don’t get on, which leads to Downey threatening to rip Zach’s dog in half.

True Grit – Film 4 – 9.00pm

A remake of a classic, which in itself became a classic, as Jeff Bridges, Hailee Steinfeld and our own Domhnall Gleeson starring in The Coen Brothers stark, but darkly funny, western.

Sisters – RTE One – 9.00pm

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are sisters who decide to throw one last party in their childhood home before their parents sell it. And grown-ups knowing this might be their last big party? They can party.

Magic Mike – TG4 – 9.30pm

Channing Tatum and his handsome friends take their clothes off for money. That’s about it, really.

Never Say Never Again – ITV4 – 10.05pm

The weird Bond film that isn’t really a Bond film, with Connery back in the role, but still considered to not be a part of the actual series of movies. Max Von Sydow is the bad guy, Kim Basinger is the Bond Girl, and the plot involves stolen nuclear bombs and a character named Fatima Bush. Which is never not funny to say out loud.
