Here are the 5 best movies on the telly today

Rory Cashin

Yep, Batman is on the TV tonight.

Happy Bank Holiday Monday! Maybe you should use it to go to the cinema? There are some crackers on the big screen this week, and we’ve reviewed them all in the latest episode of The Big Reviewski:

But if you’ve overdone it and need a couch day, then we’ve got you covered:

MONDAY 5 AUGUST

The Blind Side – TV3 – 9.00pm

Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her work in this true-life story of a woman who takes in a homeless teen, only for him to go on to become an incredible football player. Expect tears.

Tigerland – TG4 – 9.30pm

Early career Colin Farrell leads this war movie about an infantry being trained in Vietnam, knowing that they could be called to take part in the midst of battle at any moment.

Batman Begins – 3E – 10.05pm

The one that made Batman – and comic book movies in general – a very serious business again, with the double-whammy Irish bad-guys of Cillian Murphy and Liam Neeson giving the Dark Knight some trouble.

X-Men: First Class – Film 4 – 10.55pm

Another reboot tonight, with more Irish talent, as Michael Fassbender plays a younger Magneto, in the early days when he was still kind of mates with James McAvoy’s younger Professor X. Also features Jennifer Lawrence as the shape-shifting Mystique, and Kevin Bacon on scene-chewing form as the big bad guy.

The Adjustment Bureau – ITV4 – 11.00pm

Matt Damon and Emily Blunt are two people who fall in love, but literally the entire universe – all of time and space and everything in between – has decided they should not be together. Will love be enough to keep them together? A weird, unique but kind of brilliant sci-fi-romance.
