Contenders, you will go on my first whistle. Yes!
In terms of the biggest compliment that you could pay the iconic show Gladiators, we think it speaks for itself that the names of Jet, Saracen and Wolf still stir some incredible memories for fans of the show.
A stalwart of Saturday night TV for years, Gladiators saw four contestants, two male and two female, compete in a series of physical events against the show’s Gladiators.
Of course, the memories of the particular challenges are almost as iconic as the participants themselves. Hell, who didn’t fancy having a go on those various zones/challenges like Atmosphere, Danger-Zone, Swingshot, Gauntlet, Duel, and Hang-Tough?
Of course, all of these tests of physical endurance were building up to one thing, The Eliminator. Truth be told, we had dreams of flying through that bunting on the zip-line.
Well, just like the events of October 1992 when the UK version of Gladiators launched, it appears that our American friends will be getting their rebooted version of the show first because a new version of the show is being shopped around by MGM.
John Ferraro, the producer of the original American Gladiators, is involved with this new version but he’s not alone Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg who are also expected to serve as executive producers on the new show.
Deadline have reported that MGM are pushing hard for a new version to be given the green light and it bodes well that Rogen and Goldberg are attached to this project.
Aside from creating the likes of Superbad and Pineapple Express, the pair also have an impressive track record in TV having produced the likes of The Boys, Black Monday, Preacher and Future Man.
Nothing official regarding the Gladiators reboot has been announced but we’re giddy at the thought of the ’90s classic returning to the airwaves.
Bring it on.
