You’d never do any of these, right?
Flying can be a stressful time for anyone.
Sure, taking off is unreal and you can’t beat a good landing – even if the whole applause thing is ridiculous – but not everyone enjoys the experience.
Even if you don’t have a deep-rooted fear of flying, air travel can be a bit of an ordeal, with various delays, strikes and general irritants all factors that could lead to a bad headache.
Throw in your fellow passengers causing havoc and the whole thing might just make you wish you stayed at home instead.
A new survey of over 5,000 Irish holiday-goers reveals that rudeness directed at flight staff, overdoing it on mid-flight alcohol, and kicking seats rank high among the most bothersome behaviours endured.
Conducted by AA Travel Insurance, the poll found that 86.4% of people described being rude to staff as “very annoying” while over 70% of us frown upon those who knock back a few too many alcoholic beverages during the flight.
Kicking seats, meanwhile, remains a classic ‘not big or clever’ problem.
“Unfortunately there isn’t much you can do about these kind of behaviours other than try to focus on the fact that you’ll soon be enjoying yourself on a beach somewhere to try to help you through the rest of the flight,” notes Conor Faughnan, AA Director of Consumer Affairs.
In terms of our plans for once we reach our destination, embracing the local culture appears to be a greater priority for Irish holiday-goers than lazing at the beach.
42.8% of those surveyed stated that they ensure to fit at least one cultural day trip into each trip abroad, with a further 38.1% stating that the majority of their holidays would include a day trip to see the sights and sounds of the area.
Elsewhere, the survey found that less than 4% of those polled include a day of relaxing by the pool or at the beach in each holiday.
