The best Netflix TV shows available right now (November 2018)

Paul Moore

Stuck for something to watch? Here are some of the best Netflix TV shows as of October 2018.

Sometimes Netflix gets a hard time as people often complain that it’s easy to spend more time trying to find the best Netflix TV shows rather than actually watching something. You may be doing that right now.

But this isn’t Netflix’s fault. There’s just too much choice.

So we’ve compiled this list of the top TV shows on Netflix that you should really see before you watch anything else.

FYI, we’re trying to keep it as fresh as possible with the best Netflix TV shows that are relatively new or have added new episodes relatively recently and are available to watch right now.

Basically, if you haven’t seen classics like Breaking Bad and Peaky Blinders yet then you need to change that!

Big Mouth (IMDB rating 8.1/10)

Netflix synopsis: Teenage friends find their lives upended by the wonders and horrors of puberty in this edgy comedy from real-life pals Nick Kroll and Andrew Goldberg.

JOE verdict: Hilarious, filthy and incredibly smart, it’s an absolute gem of a show that’s made for binge-watching. If your sense of humour is a little bit dark and f**ked up, you’ll absolutely love the Hormone Monster. You’re the man, Steve!

The Haunting of Hill House (IMDB rating 9.1/10)

Netflix synopsis: Flashing between past and present, a fractured family confronts haunting memories of their old home and the terrifying events that drove them from it.

JOE verdict: Smart, layered and creepy as hell, this is intelligent horror filmmaking that respects things like character development, acting and atmosphere. Definitely worth watching.

Daredevil (IMDB rating 8.7/10)

Netflix synopsis: Blinded as a young boy, Matt Murdock fights injustice by day as a lawyer and by night as the Super Hero Daredevil in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City.

JOE verdict: Season 3 is definitely a return to form for the devil of Hell’s Kitchen. Season 2 suffered from having too many new characters wedged in and the necessity to set up The Defenders, but this gets back to the basics.

Making A Murderer: Part Two (IMDB rating 8.6/10)

Netflix synopsis: Filmed over 10 years, this real-life thriller follows a DNA exoneree who, while exposing police corruption, becomes a suspect in a grisly new crime.

JOE verdict: Part Two is now available to watch and while it lacks the tension and twists of the first ten episodes – that was always going to be hard to top – Part Two goes further into the investigation. After watching it, you might think that Kathleen Zellner is a superhero. Definitely worth a watch.

Elite (IMDB rating 7.8/10)

Netflix synopsis: When three working-class teens enrol in an exclusive private school in Spain, the clash between them and the wealthy students leads to murder.

JOE verdict: A teen drama thats actually worth watching because the writing is extremely good and the characters are very well developed.

The Sinner (IMDB rating 8.0/10)

Netflix synopsis: When a young mother inexplicably stabs a stranger to death, a sympathetic detective struggles to unlock the mystery buried in her missing memories.

JOE verdict: Season 2 arrives on 9 November and it has plenty to live up to. Season 1 reinvented the crime genre but without Jessica Biel, we’re curious to see if the new episodes can match what came before.

Prison Break (IMDB rating 8.4/10)

Netflix synopsis: When his brother is wrongly convicted of murder, a structural engineer resolves to bust his sibling out of the notorious Fox River State Penitentiary.

JOE verdict: Ignore the latter seasons because the quality does dip. This being said, the first two were some of the most gripping TV in relatively recent memory and for anyone that hasn’t seen the drama, it’s perfect for a binge.

Line of Duty (IMDB rating 8.5/10)

Netflix synopsis: DS Steve Arnott is transferred to a police anticorruption unit after he refuses to be part of a cover-up involving an accidental shooting.

JOE verdict: Season 4 will be available to watch on the online streaming giant in the next few weeks and it’s that rare beast, a show that keeps on getting better. In comparison to what’s coming, the first season seems a little sluggish but stick with it because it gets much, much better.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina (IMDB rating 8/10)

Netflix synopsis: Magic and mischief collide as half-human, half-witch Sabrina navigates between two worlds: mortal teen life and her family’s legacy, the Church of Night.

JOE verdict: Having seen the first few episodes, we’re happy to say that the trailers didn’t deceive because this is a much darker and scarier take on the character.

Narcos: Mexico (IMDB rating N/A)

Netflix synopsis: See the rise of the Guadalajara Cartel as an American DEA agent learns the danger of targeting narcos in Mexico.

JOE verdict: After the demise of Escobar in Season 2, the producers took a gamble by focusing on the Cali Cartel and it paid off handsomely. The trailers for this have been exceptional and with a pairing of Diego Luna and Michael Pena as the lead actors, we’re pumped to see what’s in store.

House of Cards (IMDB rating 8.9/10)

Netflix synopsis: A Congressman works with his equally conniving wife to exact revenge on the people who betrayed him.

JOE verdict: We all want to find out how Frank gets killed and it’s a pretty decent pay off.
