WATCH: A trad session broke out on a busy flight and it looked like great craic

Paul Moore

Brilliant scenes.

Bringing people together in the spirit of joy and happiness is what trad music does best and over the years we’ve been treated to some fine examples.

Cast your mind back to the impromptu session that broke out in Supermac’s in Ennis, or the scenes in Newcastle when an Irish flight was delayed. Rather than pass the time idly by, passengers started a massive trad session while waiting.

On this aerial note, a similar bit of craic kicked off during a recent flight that was on its way from Zurich to Chicago.

JOE reader Brendan Walsh informs us that “one of the air stewards dared us to take the instruments out” after noticing that the lads were all musicians. Brendan adds: “We didn’t need to be asked twice. They gave us a bottle of champagne as a result! We landed in O’Hare airport ready for our US tour with a smile. The other passengers were loving it!”

In fact, these men play as part of a band called The Led Farmers and the talented musicians are Brendan Walsh (Co Clare) on Banjo and vocals, Ross O’Farrell (Dublin) is the man wearing blue that’s singing along – kudos on the exceptional Rick and Morty tattoo also!

Take a look as The Led Farmers perform Mountain Dew and Tell Me Ma.

With Ireland taking on Italy in Chicago in a few weeks, we wonder if these scenes will become the norm as people travel over to The Windy City.

Long may it continue.

Great stuff.
