Just remember, they’re not swearwolves.
Over the Halloween season, plenty of people would have been attending fancy dress costumes but we’re pretty confident in saying that nobody used the line “if you are going to eat a sandwich, you would just enjoy it more if you knew no one had fucked it.”
Of course, horror, hilarity, and fancy decadence are the norm for anyone that loves What We Do in the Shadows because as frequently stated, we’re massive fans of Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi’s wonderful horror comedy.
If you’re not familiar with the world of What We do in the Shadows then you need to change that.
The fictional documentary chronicles the adventures of four vampire roommates that are trying to live in a modern world that’s not always hospitable to the undead.
Imagine the documentary style of This is Spinal Tap and Borat, but mixed with the absurd comedy of Father Ted and Flight of the Conchords… but with vampires.
Clement and Waititi co-wrote, co-directed, and co-star in this hilarious send-up where an endearingly uncool quartet of friends reveal to us or, rather, to the documentary crew that’s filming them, the details of their nightly routine.
Ranging in age from 183 to 8,000, these mates squabble over household chores, struggle to keep up with the latest trends in technology and fashion, piss off the local werewolves (they’re not swear-wolves) visit clubs to pick up some ladies, and deal with the rigours of living on a very, very strict diet.
The spin-off show, Wellington Paranormal, is an absolute riot and it’s time for a new batch of dandy vampires to take a bite out of the US.
Kayvan Novak (Danger Mouse, Thunderbirds Are Go), Matt Berry (The IT Crowd, Toast of London), Natasia Demetriou (Year Friends) and Harvey Guillen (The Thundermans, The Internship) will be playing the new vampires.
The series will move the setting from Wellington, New Zealand to New York City as a documentary crew follows a new group of vampires as they deal with the typical mundanities of living with roommates in the big city.
Deadline state that : “Novak will play Nandor, the head vampire of the house. Berry plays Lazslo, the goofiest in the house, the type of vampire who turns into a bat and flies into a wall. Demetriou plays Nadja, the badass female vampire of the house. Guillen is believed to play Nandor’s assistant.”
The first footage has been released and it nails the tone of the original.
