One of the biggest child stars of all time spoke extremely honestly in this interview, which is her first in years.
Amanda Bynes took a step away from the public eye a number of years ago. This would have been a dramatic change for someone who must be considered one of the most famous child stars of all time.
Her TV show, The Amanda Show, was every child’s favourite at one point in the early 2000’s, and she starred in some successful movies after that. What a Girl Wants, She’s the Man and Hairspray were all hits, and essential viewing for any teenage girl at a certain point.
But things took a turn for the star a number of years ago, which resulted in her announcing her departure from the limelight through a series of controversial tweets.
And on Monday night, an interview with Paper Magazine has gone some way into explaining her decision.
Speaking about these tweets, Bynes said: “I’m really ashamed and embarrassed with the things I said. I can’t turn back time but if I could, I would. And I’m so sorry to whoever I hurt and whoever I lied about because it truly eats away at me.
“It makes me feel so horrible and sick to my stomach and sad,” Bynes said. “Everything I worked my whole life to achieve, I kind of ruined it all through Twitter.” But, she added, “It’s definitely not Twitter’s fault — it’s my own fault.”
She also spoke about an Adderall addiction that was borne out of a desire to lose weight, stating she remembers seeing her, “image on the screen and literally tripping out and thinking my arm looked so fat because it was in the foreground or whatever and I remember rushing off set and thinking, Oh my god, I look so bad.”
She is now four years sober, and is receiving her Associate’s of Art degree in Merchandise Product Development from the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising.
