Forget what you know about superheroes, The Boys are here to kick them in the balls

Paul Moore

The gritty new TV show could flip all superhero films on their heads.

There are some actors who could probably cause film fans and comic book lovers to have a geekgasm and die.

Granted, that would make for a very inserting eulogy and given Karl Urban’s extremely chilled and likeable personality, we think the New Zealander would be pretty cool with that.

Over the course of his impressive career, Urban has starred in Dredd, The Lord of the Rings films, Star Trek, Thor: Ragnarok, and The Bourne Supremacy.

All things considered, he’s a badass.

Well, in his latest project, The Boys, Urban is starring in one of the most eagerly-anticipated comic book adaptations of the year.

We even put The Boys on our list of TV shows you need to watch in 2019 and here’s why.

Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s acclaimed graphic novel, The Boys has the potential to be a massive hit, powered by creative duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

What’s it about?

In a world where superheroes embrace the darker side of their massive celebrity and fame, The Boys revolves around on a group of vigilantes known informally as “The Boys,” who set out to take down corrupt superheroes with no more than their blue-collar grit and a willingness to fight dirty.

However, with superheroes treated like celebrities and revered as Gods, how can you stop them when they abuse their powers?

It’s the powerless against the super powerful when The Boys embark on a heroic quest to expose the truth about “The Seven” and Vought – the multi-billion dollar conglomerate that manages these superheroes.

Essentially, imagine a world where The Avengers or Justice League use all their powers for evil, but their PR team keep their image in check.

At present, no premiere date has been announced but the show is expected to be released by Amazon this summer.

Take a look at what’s in store.
