Here are the 5 best movies on TV this evening

Carl Kinsella

We’ll level with you… not the best selection tonight.

Usually we’re able to find some gold to mine, but today, Thursday, 28 February, seems to be our undoing. There’s basically nothing good on.

But hey! Maybe somebody out there will like these terrible films, so we’re still going to let you know which movies on TV tonight are technically the best, in the sense that they are the only movies on.

We also actually found one properly decent one so not all hope is lost.

Okay. Hold your nose and close your eyes. Let’s do this.

Faster – Virgin Media One – 9pm

This 2010 action film sees Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson on the hunt to avenge his brother’s murder while he’s chased down by crooked cop Billy Bob Thornton. But is there more to it? No. Not really.

Three Identical Strangers – Channel 4 – 9pm

This documentary, about three identical triplets who were separated at birth, is far and away the best movie on TV tonight. It won an award at the Sundance Film Festival, and was nominated at the BAFTAs for Best Documentary. It also has a “universal acclaim” rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Watch this tonight.

Enemy of the State – ITV4 – 10pm

Definitely a better option than Faster, anyway. This 1998 film starring Will Smith, Gene Hackman and Jon Voight at the centre of a government conspiracy was a box office smash back in its day. You could do a lot worse. Sure, you could also do better, but perspective is important.

Bad Teacher – Comedy Central – 9pm

One of those comedies that’s not technically funny. Worth watching simply in order to support Cameron Diaz, who hasn’t been in anything big in a while. We still love you, Cameron.

Haywire – SyFy – 10pm

If you LIKE middle-of-the-road action thrillers then tonight is absolutely your night. Haywire, starring MMA fighter Gina Carano, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Bill Paxton, Channing Tatum and Antonio Banderas, might be the one for you tonight. That’s pretty much as star-studded as it comes. Also, it’s set and was shot primarily in Dublin, so if you feel like some patriotic cheering… this is the one.
