The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug – ITV2 – 5.55pm
Really rolls off the tongue, that.
You know the drill; a bunch of hobbits battle a charismatic dragon, voiced by the dulcet tones of Benedict Cumberbatch.
Rise of the Planet of the Apes – E4 – 6.55pm
Part one of the modern-day Apes redo, as Andy Serkis makes his mark with a stunning performance under the CGI veil of Caesar, a highly intelligent creature who has had just about enough.
Street Fighter – SyFy – 9pm
Belgian martial arts sensation Jean-Claude Van Damme plays the all-American Guile as Ryu and Ken are shunted to support players in this wildly colourful and very silly adaptation of the classic video game series.
Why watch it, you ask? Because the late Raul Julia is exceptional as M. Bison, knowing precisely what kind of movie he is in and doing his best to bring some class to the whole affair.
For him, it was Tuesday…

Hancock – Comedy Central – 9pm
Will Smith is an unlikely superhero with crippling emotional issues. Jason Bateman is a PR type who wants to reinvent his public image. And where does Charlize Theron factor in?
Hancock had serious potential, and though the end product had the edges removed, it’s still worth a go for how weird it is.
Rush Hour 2 – Virgin Media One – 9pm
Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker settle into their mismatched buddy cop stride.
Boiler Room – TCM – 11pm
A turn of the century riff on Wall Street and Glengarry Glen Ross with a good cast.
Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel and Ben Affleck are among those strutting about the high-powered business world where only the sharks survive.
