Some very decent choices to help ease down from the long weekend…
It is Bank Holiday Monday. What do we do with ourselves after a full weekend of partying and/or Rancho Relaxo-ing?
Well, there is the cinema, and there is our reviews of all the new releases, which you can check out right here.
Or there is the new episode of Game Of Thrones, complete with MASSIVE MISTAKE.
Or, there is one of these to enjoy…
MONDAY 6 MAY
E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial – RTE One – 3.35pm
One of the greatest family movies ever made, and if you’re in any way hungover today, guaranteed to give your tear-ducts a proper workout.
Over The Hedge – TG4 – 5.30pm
An incredibly stacked voice cast – Bruce Willis, Steve Carell, Garry Shandling, Wanda Sykes, William Shatner, Nick Nolte, Avril Lavigne (?!), Allison Janney, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Thomas Hayden Church – star in this story about a group of animals forced to fight for their homes when a suburb begins to expand. Very funny stuff.
The Mask – Universal TV – 7.00pm
The movie that pretty much made Jim Carrey a huge star, as well as introducing the world to Cameron Diaz, as it involves Carrey putting on the mask of Loki (yep!), who then turns him into a hyper-confident, unkillable version of himself.
Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me – Comedy Central – 8.00pm
The second one (and the best one?) features Heather Graham as Felicity Shagwell, and also contains our introductions to both Mini-Me (amazing) and Fat Bastard (not as amazing). It is also pretty funny to see Will Ferrell in one single scene where he gets annoyed by a line of questioning and ends up breaking both of his legs.
A Date For Mad Mary – Virgin Media Two – 9.00pm
We wrote about this movie at length here, but in short, watch it, because it is a brilliant Irish movie.
Warrior – FilmFour – 9.00pm
Tom Hardy and Joel Edgerton are two estranged brothers, the sons of Nick Nolte’s alcoholic father, who find themselves on a collision course when they both sign up for the same MMA competition. A super-macho drama, and filled with fantastic performances.
The Abyss – Syfy – 9.40pm
James Cameron’s only flop (considering he’s the guy behind The Terminator, Aliens, T2, True Lies, Titanic, and Avatar, we figure he’s allowed one), but it is also one of his better movies, telling the story of a group of scientists who must travel to the bottom of the ocean to find a sunken submarine, and end up encountering a new life form.
