This sounds excellent. Prepare to be terrified.
Given the fact that The Haunting of Hill House was one of the best new TV shows of last year, it should come as no surprise to learn that its writer/director, Mike Flanagan, is a man in demand.
Much like the Crain family whenever a supernatural threat draws near, Flanagan is staying loyal to the people he knows and trusts the most because he’s going to be working with Netflix again on a brand new horror show.
Deadline have announced that Flanagan and his producing partner Trevor Macy will be developing a new show called Midnight Mass for the streaming giant.
The show will be a seven-episode series about an isolated island community that begins to experience miraculous events — and frightening omens — when a mysterious young priest arrives in town.
Flanagan will direct and executive produce Midnight Mass with Macy, but he’s going to be a very busy man over the coming few months.
The brand new show should come as no surprise because Flanagan and Macy have a very strong relationship with Netflix.
The duo collaborated with the streaming giant on the 2014 feature Oculus. They continued to work together in the horror/ thriller genre with Gerald’s Game, Hush and Before I Wake, all of which have streamed on Netflix.
However, as stated previously, the duo are also prepping a followup to The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor.
A few days ago, Victoria Pedretti (Nell Crain) was cast in the show and the adaptation of Henry James’ beloved gothic horror novella is expected to arrive in 2020.
In the Haunting of Bly Manor, the story unfolds over Christmas Eve as a group of friends gather around to share ghost stories. One of the guests, a man named Douglas, begins to tell the tale of two children (Flora and Miles) and their governess.
The governess is hired by a man to take care of his young niece and nephew after the death of their parents. However, both children are strangely distant and oddly silent.
The children also live in a forlorn estate and are frequently haunted by a mysterious evil. With growing horror, the helpless governess realises these fiendish ghouls want the children.
However, both children are drawn to the darkness for reasons unknown.
We can’t wait to see it.
