And so begins the weekend.
Movie fans, you’ve got two choices this evening.
Go to the cinema, and check out one of the new releases (including Doctor Sleep, Sorry I Missed You, and Western Stars, all of which we review right here).
Or you can sit in and enjoy a movie, and we’ve selected the five best on the box tonight for you perusal:
FRIDAY 1 NOVEMBER
World War Z – Film4 – 9pm
Brad Pitt finds himself travelling the world to solve the mystery of a zombie outbreak. A blockbuster budget horror movie with some great visuals and set-pieces.
Unbroken – RTE2 – 10pm
Angelina Jolie directs this WWII-set drama, telling the true story of an Olympic medal winner (played by Jack O’Connell) who survives serious hardships during the battlefield, only to be caught and spend years as a prisoner of war.
Daybreakers – Film4 – 11.15pm
Ethan Hawke is a vampire-scientist (no, seriously!) who is trying to come up with a solution to a global blood shortage when humanity is feed upon to the point of extinction. A decent-if-unmemorable sci-fi/horror/action-thriller. (All of the genres!)
The Graduate – RTE One – 11.50pm
Dustin Hoffman has just finished college and doesn’t know what to do with his life, but finds himself consumed with a passionate affair with a bored older woman (Anne Bancroft), a friend of his parents. Things take a turn when he also begins an affair with the one woman she requested he stay away from, her daughter (Katharine Ross). One of those classics you should probably check off your bucket list if you haven’t already.
Hell Or High Water – More4 – 12.20am
Chris Pine and Ben Foster are two brothers who have made a living robbing banks, but their days of staying ahead of the cops are about to come to an end when a new detective (played by Jeff Bridges) is assigned to the case. One of the best thrillers of the decade.
