Here are the five best movies on TV on Thursday

Rudi Kinsella

It’s almost the weekend.

But sadly, not yet.

Thursday night just seems like a good night to sit in and watch a movie, if you’re not watching the Champions League that is.

Here’s what today has to offer.

X-Men: The Last Stand – 6.55pm – Film4

Because who doesn’t want to watch a star-studded superhero flick of a Thursday evening?

Heartbreak Ridge – 9pm – ITV Four

An experienced US marine sergeant (Clint Eastwood) returns to a former unit to help train a squad of raw recruits and prepare them for deployment to war zones. Classic Clint.

The Damned United – 9pm – BBC Four

The story of Brian Clough’s infamous time in charge of Leeds United, starring the brilliant Michael Sheen. Well worth the watch if you have a passing interest in football.

What Women Want – 9pm – Comedy Central

A freak accident gives a womanising executive the ability to hear the thoughts of the opposite sex starring Mel Gibson, Bette Midler and Helen Hunt. A very 90s comedy, despite it coming out in 2000.

Ali – 11.35pm – ITV Four

The second of two very good sporting movies on the box tonight. An Academy-award nominated Will Smith plays the legendary Muhamed Ali in what may be his greatest ever performance.
