Two options tonight are all-time classics.
Missing cinemas but feel you’ve watched everything Netflix has to offer? Not to worry, as there is some very good films airing on TV tonight.
Here’s our pick of the evening’s best offerings.
The Matrix – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm
Simply one of the best and most mind-blowing sci-fi movies ever made.
Now would be a good time to revisit The Matrix before the fourth in the franchise is (hopefully) released later in the year.
Jaws – ITV 4 – 9pm
Deep Blue Sea, The Meg, The Shallows – there’s been a couple of fun shark-centric blockbusters.
That said, none of them are as thrilling as Steven Spielberg’s breakthrough, a movie that feels as fresh and terrifying as when it premiered over 45 years ago.
The Grudge – Horror Channel – 9pm
Sarah Michelle Gellar stars in this American remake of an extremely creepy (in a good way) Japanese horror.
The Darkest Minds – Film Four – 9pm
Based on a YA book, The Darkest Minds follows a group of young kids and teenagers who are on the run from the government after mysteriously obtaining superpowers.
Going in Style – RTÉ One – 9.35pm
Zach Braff of Garden State and Scrubs fame directs this heist comedy about a trio of retirees who plan to rob a bank after their pensions are canceled.
The central trio are played by the legendary Morgan Freeman, Michael Caine and Alan Arkin.
22 Jump Street – Comedy Central – 10pm
Comedy sequels rarely surpass the original but 22 Jump Street might be the exception. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill return as undercover cops who this time must blend in as college students in order to find the supplier of a new drug.
Thanks to Hill and Tatum’s chemistry and plenty of meta-jokes about sequels, the gags come thick and fast. Make sure to stick around for the end credits.
The Blues Brothers – ITV 4 – 11.40pm
This cult musical action-comedy centres on a man just released from prison (John Belushi) who puts together his old band to save the Catholic home where he and his brother (Dan Aykroyd) were raised.
