“Here’s looking at you, kid.”

Stuck for something to watch this Thursday evening? Not to worry as JOE has compiled a list of the best movies airing on TV tonight.

Below are our picks for this evening.

Escape Plan – Syfy – 9pm

A lawyer turned prison security tester (Sylvester Stallone) is incarcerated in the world’s most secret and secure prison and recruits a fellow inmate (Arnold Schwarzenegger) to stage a breakout.

Thanks to its teaming up of two action icons and novel premise, Escape Plan is a lot of fun.

The Equalizer – Film Four – 9pm

A man (Denzel Washington) who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him cannot stand idly by when he meets a young girl (Chloe Grace Moretz) under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters.

Washington is his effortlessly charismatic self in this solid reboot of the popular 1980s TV series of the same name.

Kevin and Perry Go Large – Comedy Central – 9pm

Two inseparable, hormonal, English BFF teen boys (Harry Enfield, Kathy Burke), avoided by all others, head to Ibiza with Kevin’s parents in this big-screen spin-off of sketch show Harry Enfield & Chums.

Casablanca – BBC Four – 9.25pm

Our pick for this evening centres on Rick (Humphrey Bogart), a nightclub owner in Casablanca during WWII, who agrees to help his former lover Ilsa (Ingrid Bergman) and her husband. Soon, Ilsa’s feelings for Rick resurface and she finds herself renewing her love for him.

Despite being released originally in 1942, this black-and-white romantic drama has only grown in reputation since its release and is now considered one of the greatest films ever made.

As to the reasons why, we’d cite the insanely quotable script. “Here’s looking at you, kid,” “Round up the usual suspects,” “I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship,” are just some of the great lines.

But there’s also the incredibly cool performance from the legend that is Bogey as the conflicted hero.

Die Hard with a Vengeance – ITV 4 – 10pm

In the third Die Hard movie, John McClane (Bruce Willis) and a Harlem store owner (Samuel L. Jackson) are targeted by a German terrorist (Jeremy Irons) in New York City.

Jackson and Willis’ great chemistry makes Die Hard with a Vengeance one of the franchise’s better sequels.

Hear My Song – Film Four – 11.40pm

The owner of a failing club (Line of Duty’s Adrian Dunbar) seeks infamous Irish singer Josef Locke (Ned Beatty) in order to bring business and success to his establishment.

This 1991 comedy was nominated for best original screenplay at the 1993 BAFTA awards.
