The 2016 film stars Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver and Liam Neeson.
In the mood to watch something this Thursday night? Why not check out one of these movies airing on TV this evening.
Alien: Covenant – Film Four – 9pm
In the most recent entry in the legendary horror franchise, the crew of a colony ship bound for a remote planet discover what they believe to be an uncharted paradise. However, within it, lies a threat beyond their imagination.
Helmed by Ridley Scott who made the first Alien movie, Covenant was criticised in some quarters for featuring characters who routinely make silly decisions. But if you can get past that, you may find the movie’s mix of stunning visuals, interesting themes and excellent performances (including a dual turn from our own Michael Fassbender) very rewarding.
Film Four is also airing the documentary Memory: The Origins of Alien about the franchise after Alien: Covenant at 11.20pm.
Silence – BBC Four – 10.05pm
In our pick for this evening, two Portuguese Jesuit priests (Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver) in the 17th century travel to Japan in an attempt to spread Catholicism and locate their mentor (Liam Neeson), who is rumored to have committed apostasy.
Based on an acclaimed novel by Japanese author Shūsaku Endō, Silence was a long-time passion project for its co-writer and director Martin Scorsese which he had developed for 25 years. Released to critical acclaim but little at the box office, fans of the filmmaker’s crime films like Goodfellas and The Wolf of Wall Street may be left cold by its more contemplative tone and measured pace.
That said, it is a gorgeous-looking movie that explores big theological ideas, boasts brilliantly soulful performances and shines a light on an under-represented on screen time and place in history.
Hostel: Part II – Horror Channel – 10.45pm
In the second entry in Eli Roth’s notoriously gory horror franchise, three American college students studying abroad are lured to a Slovakian hostel and discover the grim reality behind it.
Tremors – ITV 4 – 11.05pm
Natives of a small isolated town defend themselves against strange underground creatures which are killing them one by one.
The great Kevin Bacon stars in this acclaimed 1990 horror-comedy.
The Dead Pool – Turner Classic Movies – 11.10pm
In the fifth and final movie in the Dirty Harry franchise, Inspector Harry Callahan (Clint Eastwood) must stop a sick secret contest to murder local celebrities, which includes himself as a target.
A quite fun action thriller, The Dead Pool co-stars Liam Neeson and a young Jim Carrey.
