Con Air – ITV 4 – 9pm
In our pick for this evening, a newly paroled ex-con and former US Ranger (played by Nicolas Cage boasting long hair and a Southern accent) finds himself trapped in a prisoner transport plane when the passengers seize control.
A supremely watchable action flick, Con Air really has two things going for it. One, it features a terrific ensemble of villains, some of which are played by legends like Danny Trejo, John Malkovich, Steve Buscemi and Ving Rhames.
Two, it’s chock-full of truly insane, ludicrous set-pieces you can’t help but be entertained by.
White Chicks – Comedy Central – 9pm
Shawn and Marlon Wayans star as two black FBI agents who go undercover as – you guessed it – white chicks.
The Day After Tomorrow – Film Four – 9pm
Independence Day director Roland Emmerich helms another sci-fi disaster flick, this time about the world falling into a new ice age.
Magnum Force – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm
Clint Eastwood stars in this sequel to Dirty Harry.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring – Sky Showcase – 9.45pm
The first in Peter Jackson’s iconic fantasy trilogy.
Ransom – ITV 4 – 11.20pm
Mel Gibson plays a man whose son is kidnapped in this taut ’90s thriller.
The Wedding Ringer – Comedy Central – 11.20pm
Two weeks shy of his wedding, a socially awkward guy (Josh Gad) enters into a charade by hiring the owner of a company (Kevin Hart) that provides best men for grooms in need.
