Remember, remember…
The fifth of November.
Gunpowder, treason and plot.
I see no reason.
Why movies on TV.
Should ever be forgot.
Here’s how it looks on Friday, 5 November…
Eye in the Sky – Film4 – 7pm
Helen Mirren and Alan Rickman wade into the murky politics of drone warfare.
Sicario 2: Soldado – Film4 – 9pm
The wildly unnecessary sequel to the superb 2015 original.
For a Few Dollars More – TG4 – 9.05pm
Clint Eastwood does the ‘enigmatic gunslinger’ thing.
The Girl in the Spider’s Web – RTÉ 2 – 10pm
Claire Foy takes up the mantle of Lisbeth Salander from Rooney Mara for a new, considerably mediocre in comparison to the David Fincher effort, adventure.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes – Film4 – 11.25pm
Our main pick for you on this ‘we’ve seen better’ Friday night.
The second edition of the recent Planet of the Apes reboot trilogy – shouldn’t they have called the first one Dawn and the second one Rise? – and the best of the three, in this writer’s humble opinion.
Gary Oldman, Jason Clarke, Keri Russell and Andy Serkis do their best but it’s Toby Kebell’s excellent motion-capture performance as the villainous Koba that steals it.
Wall Street – RTÉ One – 11.45pm
Michael Douglas and Charlie Sheen weigh up the moral value of greed.
Happy Death Day – Channel 4 – 12.25am
Acceptable Groundhog Day-style horror.
Attack the Block – Film4 – 2am
A great sci-fi action-comedy, should you still be awake.
