It was a big week in terms of blockbuster teasers.
Hello and welcome back once again to JOE’s trailer column.
By now you should know the drill but for first-time readers, this is where we compile the best movie and TV trailers released in the past week for your viewing pleasure.
You can check out the best offerings of the past seven days below.
Nope

First up this week, we have the latest trailer for Nope – the new film from horror maestro Jordan Peele (Get Out, Us).
The movie follows a brother and sister (Daniel Kaluuya and Keke Palmer) who own a ranch that seems like it’s being terrorised by an alien spacecraft.
As such, the pair set their minds on capturing video evidence of the UFO with the help of a tech salesman (Brandon Perea, The OA) and a documentarian (Michael Wincott, The Crow).
With Get Out and Us, Peele’s directorial career to date has been pretty flawless so we’re hoping Nope will continue his winning streak when it lands in Irish cinemas on 12 August.
Black Adam

An upcoming entry in the DC Cinematic Universe (DCEU), Black Adam will see Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson play the title character – a powerful anti-hero who was imprisoned for 5,000 years.
However, after being freed from his earthly tomb in modern times, he begins to wreak havoc.
Also featuring amongst its cast Ireland’s own Pierce Brosnan, the blockbuster is set to be released in Ireland on 21 October.
Bullet Train

This week, we also got another look at Bullet Train – a new action-comedy from the director of Deadpool 2 and starring Brad Pitt.
The Oscar-winner plays a hitman plagued with bad luck who is hired to collect a briefcase on a bullet train heading from Tokyo to Kyoto, which winds up proving harder than it seems.
Following his acclaimed comedic turn in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Bullet Train looks like another fun role for Pitt – with the actor also being supported by a cool cast of character actors including Brian Tyree Henry, Hiroyuki Sanada, Michael Shannon and Zazie Beetz.
You can check out the blockbuster in cinemas on 3 August.
Prey

Continuing with blockbusters, this week a new trailer was released for Prey, the latest in the Predator franchise.
Moving the action back to 1719, the movie centres on a skilled female warrior (Amber Midthunder, Legion) in the Comanche Nation who fights to protect her tribe against one of the first highly-evolved Predators to land on Earth.
Looking like it will be an exciting new step forward for the classic sci-fi action horror series, Prey is set for a Disney+ release in Ireland on 5 August.
1899/The Midnight Club
Clips via Netflix
As part of its “Geeked Week”, Netflix dropped a bunch of new trailers recently including for its new Resident Evil series and the final episodes of Stranger Things season four.
However, the two teasers that most caught JOE’s eyes were for the streamer’s upcoming shows 1899 and The Midnight Club.
The first is from the creators of Netflix’s excellent German mind-bender Dark and follows a group of European passengers on a migrant steamship in 1899 whose journey becomes a horrifying nightmare.
Meanwhile, The Midnight Club is co-created by Mike Flanagan (Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Hill House) and centres on a group of terminally ill young adults in a hospice where bizarre occurrences begin to occur.
While 1899 does not have an exact release date yet, The Midnight Club is set to premiere on 7 October.
