The movie also recently celebrated its 25th anniversary.
Action, horror, musicals and incredibly sad dramas are among the movies on TV this evening. Starting with…
Gravity – BBC Three – 7.30pm
Sandra Bullock and George Clooney star in this cutting edge sci-fi thriller about two astronauts abandoned in space with no clear way to get back to Earth.
Rocky IV – ITV4 – 9pm
Rocky Four. ITV Four. Coincidence? Yes, entirely.
The Blair Witch Project – Sky Sci-Fi – 9pm
The reason why going camping in the woods no longer sounds like a fun way to spend time with friends.
Armageddon – FilmFour – 9pm
Our main pick for tonight is Armageddon, which very recently celebrated its 25th anniversary. We wrote all about that, which you can check out here. Released the same year as Deep Impact, this is the other astronauts need to blow up an asteroid movie in 1998, i.e. the one had Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck and Michael Bay blowing up entire cities.
Armageddon is also available to stream on Disney+ right now.
Bohemian Rhapsody – RTÉ One – 9.35pm
Rami Malek won the Best Actor for his portrayal of Freddie Mercury in this musical biopic. We still think it should’ve gone to Bradley Cooper for his role in A Star Is Born. Thoughts?
Beautiful Boy – BBC Three – 9.45pm
Steve Carrell and Timothee Chalamet star in this emotional drama about a father who goes to extreme lengths to help his son with his meth addiction.
Happy Death Day 2U – FilmFour – 12.05am
The horror sequel which puts a violent twist on the repeat-the-loop, Groundhog Day idea isn’t as good as the original, but it is still plenty entertaining.
Loving Vincent – FilmFour – 2.10am
Loads of Irish talent including Saoirse Ronan, Chris O’Dowd and Aidan Turner feature in this experimental animated adult drama about the life of famed painter Vincent Van Gogh.
