One of the most underappreciated sequels ever is among the movies on TV tonight

Your mid-week movie menu has arrived!

If you’ve already checked out the 12 huge movies added to Prime Video and the 26 big movies added to Netflix, and you’re still on the hunt for a good movie to watch this evening, then here are the films you can enjoy on your telly…

Secret Headquarters – FilmFour – 6.55pm

A teenager and his friends discover that his dad (Owen Wilson) is a world famous superhero, and their superhero base is built directly beneath their home. A very okay action adventure.

Buried – Legend – 9pm

Ryan Reynolds plays an army contractor in Iraq who wakes up in an already buried coffin, with no idea where exactly he is, and a dwindling supply of air.

Jack Reacher – FilmFour – 9pm

A very entertaining action thriller, with Tom Cruise as a retired army guy dragged back into action when a seemingly random sniper attack results in massive repercussions.

The Boxer – RTÉ One – 9.35pm

Recently celebrating its 25th anniversary, this reunion of In The Name of the Father star Daniel Day Lewis and director Jim Sheridan is a powerful but perhaps underseen sports drama set against the imminent peace talks.

Raid 2

Stylish crime epic The Raid 2 is an absolute must-watch for fans of the original

The Raid 2 – Sky Max – 9.45pm

Our pick for the night is The Raid 2. The first Raid movie is one of the best action movies of recent years, with its claustrophobic confines only adding to its brilliance. For the sequel, those tight quarters are exploded outwards, as it takes on a more Godfather Part II crime epic scale, but with fight sequences that are no less visceral, exciting and outrageously choreographed.

The Raid 2 is also available to stream in Ireland and the UK on Netflix or with a NOW Cinema Membership.

Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues – FilmFour – 11.40pm

Not as funny as the original, but still with plenty of laughs to be found, from bats being used as a replacement for chicken, to Ron becoming a “blind” hermit.

Little Fockers – FilmFour – 2am

The third one. The final one. The really, really bad one.
