Some great movies to choose on the telly this evening!
Once again we’re pointing you towards the 12 huge movies added to Prime Video and the 26 big movies added to Netflix added this week, if you’re in a movie mood, and the alternatives on your tellys tonight are as follows…
Star Trek Beyond – FilmFour – 6.40pm
The third movie in the recently rebooted series sees the Trek crew surviving a catastrophic crash and forced to survive on a hostile, enemy filled planet. Idris Elba is the scary bad guy.
In the Heat of the Night – BBC Four – 9pm
Sidney Poitier is Virgil Tibbs, a detective investigating a murder in a racial-filled town in Mississippi. Widely considered to be one of the best movies of the 1960s.
Peppermint – Virgin Media Two – 9pm
Jennifer Garner tries her hand at the Taken formula, taking the director of Taken along for the ride, but it ends up being a kind of crap action thriller.
Inside Man – FilmFour – 9pm
An all-star cast including Denzel Washington, Clive Owen, Jodie Foster, Willem Dafoe, Christopher Plummer and Chiwetel Ejiofor feature in this clever bank heist thriller.
Step Brothers – RTÉ2 – 9.30pm
“Why are you so sweaty?” “I was watching Cops.”
Point Break – BBC Three – 10.05pm
One of the most enjoyable action movies of the 90s, with Patrick Swayze the charming serial bank robber and Keanu Reeves as the undercover cop who begins to develop a bit of a mancrush on him.
Backtrace – Sky Sci-Fi – 11pm
Sylvester Stallone stars in this action thriller as a bank robber who suffers from amnesia, and is given an experimental drug to help him remember where he stashed the stolen loot. 8% on Rotten Tomatoes, btw.
Green Book – BBC One – 11.40pm
Winner of the Best Picture Oscar in 2018, a very talented musician (Mahershala Ali) hires a private driver (Viggo Mortensen) as he travels around the racism-filled southern states of America as part of his tour.

Kevin Costner is working up a psychological sweat in No Way Out
No Way Out – FilmFour – 11.40pm
Scoring 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, our pick for the night is No Way Out, a very twisty turny thriller starring Kevin Costner, Gene Hackman and Sean Young. Set against the political fallout and Washington witch hunt that kicks off after a politician accidentally kills his mistress, you’ll never entirely be sure who to trust in this fantastically acted, written and directed movie.
No Way Out is also available to rent on Google Play and Apple TV in Ireland and the UK.
From The Dark – Legend – 12.55am
An Irish horror movie starring Niamh Algar and Stephen Cromwell as a couple who find themselves being stalked by a dangerous creature.
Drunk Wedding – Channel 4 – 1.05am
On the eve of their wedding, a couple are shocked to discover the friends they’ve invited are happy to see the event devolve into a massively debauched, drug-fuelled, sex-filled party.
Jackie – FilmFour – 1.55am
Natalie Portman is fantastic in this emotional biopic of Jackie Kennedy in the time immediately following the assassination of her husband, President John F. Kennedy.
