WATCH: Michael Fry learns the ins and outs of origami on Lyons Square Talk

Brought to you by Lyons.

Will he fold under pressure?

Heard the news? Lyons teabags have ditched the pyramid design for a brand new, square design.

At Joe HQ, we’ve teamed up with Lyons to celebrate the new design by calling on comedian Michael Fry (now Michael Square) to celebrate all things square. Got a hobby many might dismiss as kitsch or square? Round here, that’s cause for celebration, and what better way to do so than with a warm cuppa Lyons and a chit-chat? After all, Lyons puts the talk into tea.

In our first instalment of Square Talk, Michael invited crochet expert Susan Banks (of Michael Tea Higgins fame) round for a cup of Lyons, and in our latest episode, he delved into the world of origami with Irish origami whiz Origami Danny.

You can watch the full video below.

The episode kickstarted with Origami Danny clueing Michael in on the rules of this Japanese art form – no glue, no cutting, no tearing. Once they were square on that, Michael used some origami fortune tellers to see if Danny’s designs could tell his future. Spoiler alert – his result saw some very square happenings on the horizon.

Origami Danny then shared some of the technique’s most fascinating applications beyond paper – from fashion to space travel to heart stents – and, it’s safe to say, our minds were blown.

Later on the episode, we put Origami Danny’s skills to the test with Fold Under Pressure, and then it was Michael’s turn to try some origami for himself.

Keep your eyes peeled on our YouTube channel for more Square Talk in the future.
