What is Valorant?
Published by Riot Games, Valorant is an e-sports phenomenon. In this first-person tactical shooter game, players play as one of the agents in a team of five against another team to see who can win the most rounds out of 25. Since its release in 2020, Valorant has become a global sensation. In August of this year, it boasted over 20 million active players.
The A-Games
Over the past few weeks, WYLDE – a Cork-based e-sports organisations co-owned by Usain Bolt – and Virgin Media have been running the A-Games to find Ireland’s best Valorant team. The tournament culminates with a live final held in The Camden in Dublin on 18th October, kicking off at 6pm. Virgin Media will be taking over Irelands biggest sports bar and turning it into the first e-sports bar for the night with some great talent on the roster.
Irish rapper JyellowJ will be providing live entertainment, and there will also be appearances from gaming influencer Queenie and Valorant commentators Mitch Man and Beatriz KAQUKA Alonso.
Only one team can be crowned the ultimate Irish champions on the night, and they will receive a 6-month contract with the WYLDE Academy, powered by Virgin Media’s superfast 1Gig broadband.
