Could the two online giants be set to join forces…
Reports in the technology world suggest that Twitter may be about to make their first big investment by taking over Soundcloud, which is known as the YouTube for audio.
The music and audio sharing company clocked up a massive 250 million users last year and Twitter see it as the perfect tool to expand the experience for their users.
Twitter have been looking to get into the music industry for a while now, they released their own #Music app which didn’t make any real impact and Twitter killed the app earlier this year. The thinking is that Soundcloud’s already strong footing in the music industry makes it an even more attractive proposition.
The deal is by no means done and Soundcloud has most recently been valued at $700 million so it’ll be interesting to see if Twitter feel it’s worth making the such a huge investment. Twitter purchased Vine back in 2012 and that partnership has been very successful so they would be hoping for a similar impact from Soundcloud.
The potential merger follows Facebook’s recent acquisition of Whatsapp so it seems like a race to see who can build the ultimate social media tool.
