According to reports, the poor lad in question didn’t seek medical attention for five weeks…

A 22-year-old unnamed Irishman was left with a seven-week erection after the young lad in question fell onto his bike’s crossbar, according to the Irish Medical Journal. The young man, who has not been named in order to protect his privacy, has been described as a ‘competitive cyclist’.

According to the cycling news website, Stickybottle.com, the rider “sustained a blow to his ‘perineum’ – the ‘undercarriage’ area between the scrotum and anus – when he fell onto the crossbar of his mountain bike.”

While the swelling around his perineum, or ‘gooch’ area, subsided after a few days the young lad was left with a permanent erection known as a “high-flow priapism”. The man then suffered in silence for five weeks before attending Tallaght Hospital for medical attention.

After doctors failed to treat the erection with compression-dressings they were forced to block a blood vessel in a non-invasive procedure.

You’ll be glad to know that the Irish Medical Journal made sure to follow up with the man who is now enjoying a “satisfactory erection and intercourse”. It’s a bit of a strange case and doctors were only able to find two previous documented cases of a high-flow priapism occurring after a cycling accident…
