Each week JOE.ie will be highlighting a nutrition-related fact that can help improve your health and well-being. This week, it’s how to make a fish supper a tad more healthy.
This one sounds quite bizarre, but according to a study carried out at Purdue University, there is an easy way of ridding your body of most of the toxins found in a lump of battered cod.
The researchers looked at ways of dealing with the mercury often found in fish and discovered that the antioxidants in tea reacted with the chemical, and turned it into a by-product that couldn’t be absorbed by the body.
Some 92 per cent of the chemical was harmlessly flushed from the system before it could do any damage. Great news for Ireland’s Italian community.
