According to some guy with a computer, men who have a healthy skin colour are much more attractive to women then blokes with a ‘masculine face’.
The study was carried out at the Psychology department of the University of Nottingham’s Malaysia Campus. In total, it used 75 photographs of men’s faces in controlled conditions (i.e. taken in a studio) in order to measure the skin colour of their faces.
You better get the factor 20 out (70 if you’re from Leitrim), because the study revealed that the female folk found men with a ‘healthy golden’ skin colour to be more attractive then the lads with manly looking faces – you know, chiselled cheek bones, strong jaw etc.
So how do you go about getting a tan with the sort of weather we do have here in Ireland? Well, according to Dr Ian Stephen who led the research, eating your five a day will make you look better than a tan would. Hopefully you haven’t already stocked up on that factor 70.
He said: ‘Most people think the best way to improve skin colour is to get a sun-tan, but our research shows that eating lots of fruit and vegetables is actually more effective.
‘Our study shows that being healthy may be the best way for men to look attractive.
‘We know that you can achieve a more healthy looking skin colour by eating more fruit and vegetables, so that would be a good start.’
Well, at least you wont have to spend a fortune on sun-tan lotion or worse, tanning beds.
