If you enjoyed last week’s healthy recipe of freshly made chicken burgers, then you’ll love this week as we bring you homemade beef burgers.

There’s nothing better than a nice beef burger, but if you get one from a fast food joint, then no doubt your buns will be swimming in fatty grease. So to avoid the unhealthy temptations that are out there, here’s how to make your very own healthy homemade beef burgers.

Homemade Beef Burger

The basics:

10 ProPoints values per serving (40 ProPoints per recipe)
Takes 10 minutes to prepare and 15 minutes to cook
Serves 4

What you’ll need to cook:

500g extra lean beef mince
1 red onion, chopped finely
1 large garlic clove, crushed
4 tbsp chopped fresh parsley
2 tbsp tomato ketchup

To serve:

4 small sesame seed buns, split
A good handful of shredded iceberg lettuce
2 gherkins, sliced
½ small red onion, sliced

What to do:

1. Mix the mince, onion, garlic, parsley and ketchup in a large cooking bowl. Then make sure to season with a pinch of salt and pepper and shape into 4 burgers.

2. Preheat the grill to a medium high and grill the burgers for 15 minutes (don’t fry them), turning occasionally until they’re fully cooked through.

3. Lightly toast the cut side of the buns and put some lettuce on each of the bases. Top each burger base with a burger and some gherkin and onion, then finish with the top half of the bun and serve. You can add or take away from the veg if you want, but just remember bacon and cheese don’t count as vegetable toppings.

Now, to grill or BBQ?
