You’ve eaten your weight in mince pies, you’ve dealt with the extended family and the kids have finally come down from their Christmas high so now it’s time to focus on yourself and get back to your best.
Christmas can certainly take its toll on the man of today and looking after no.1 when all is said and done should be your top priority. Follow these five tips and you’ll be back to your best in no time (or they’ll make you feel worse but hey, at least we tried).
Make sure you opened all of your presents
Sometimes the odd present slips through the radar, which will give you some much needed alone time to focus on yourself. However, we would advise you to avoid any ‘leftover’ presents that come in that hard cheap plastic that turns sharper than a razor blade when you cut into it. You don’t want to end up like Larry David.
The hassle and inevitable injuries sustained from opening a present like this will just bring back haunting memories of opening the kids presents the morning before.
Get up extra early and hide the leftovers
A good trick to getting back to your best after Christmas is by simply planning ahead. If you get up early on St. Stephen’s Day, locate the leftovers and feed them to the dog then you’ll have no worries of putting on a few extra pounds before the New Year.
Plus you will get endless enjoyment out of watching the rest of the family look for the food and then the subsequent moaning that will inevitably come from them.
Tell the missus her ‘extra special’ present arrived late
You might be feeling a bit sluggish after the Holidays so to get the heart rate back going tell the missus that you got her an extra special Christmas present that only arrived this morning. Then, lovingly take her by the hand and guide her to the bedroom.
When If you get to the bedroom and she cops on to what your ‘extra special’ present is and, ahem, declines your offer then remember that at least you got the heart rate going by walking up the stairs, so it wasn’t a total loss.
Watch the football for ‘the good of your health’
Watching the football could be just as good for your health as it is bad. Once you don’t have high blood pressure, watching the St. Stephen’s Day football will certainly get you back in fighting form.
It’s a little known fact that sitting on the edge of your seat and jumping up every time your team gets close to the target is much better than doing 10,000 squats – or thereabouts. Also, lying flat on the sofa at half-time (or when it gets a bit boring) helps too. This way, you can at least give the legs a stretch.
Put the Christmas decorations back early
Instead of being a sheep and waiting until early January to put the decorations away why not be trendy and put them back early? Lugging the fake tree and all the accompanying Christmas tat back to the attic will serve as good cardio as well as an extended upper body workout.
So there you have it. Follow these five simple tips and you’ll be back to your good old self in no time. Or you may feel even worse.
Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
