The Department of Health is looking into the idea of making medical products containing marijuana additives legal in certain circumstances.

When replying to a Dail questing from Luke ‘Ming’ Flanagan (who else), the Minister of State at the Department of Health Kathleen Lynch, said her department is currently examining the issues associated with legalising cannabis based products.

Hippies excited about the prospects of being able to get some ‘sticky-icky’ at the local chemist can chill-out, as the products containing the green herb will only be used under controlled circumstances for patients with specific conditions.

Currently, there are no cannabis-based medicinal products available in Ireland, such as the drug Sativex, which comes in spray form and is used for the relief of spasm in patients with MS.

Minister Lynch said she is aware of the claims that cannabis-based medicinal products can have serious health benefits for people suffering from serious conditions, reports Irish Health.

This news comes only a week after Sweden announced that it is legalising the use of cannabis-based medicinal products.

However, if you’re waiting for Ireland to legalise the ‘Devils lettuce’ across the board, then you’re going to be waiting for some time.
