Men need post-sex nap, according to science

According to a new scientific study, men’s brains demand sleep after sex. So at least you have a solid excuse for nodding-off afterwards.

Do you get a bit sleepy eyed after sex? Well you’re not the only one and it’s certainly not because you secretly couldn’t be a*sed to cuddle her. According to one of France’s top scientists, Dr Serge Stoleru, certain parts of a man’s brain basically shut down after sex.

Dr Stoleru and his team used high-tech brain-scanning equipment to see exactly what happened in the brain before, during and after an orgasm. His results found that during the orgasm almost the entire cerebral cortex – the part of the brain that thinks – shuts down.

After an orgasm the temporal cortex and the amygdala then send messages to the rest of the brain telling it to deactivate all sexual desires. So that will explain why you’re never really up for round two straight after the bell.

The researchers also noticed that the brain released a surge of chemicals after an orgasm, mainly oxytocin and dopamine, which act like a drug by numbing the brain and giving the person in question a sense of euphoria.

So the next time she gets angry with you for nodding off after your half of the job is well and truly done, tell her to blame science.
