See Change is hosting a Walk and Talk event in Dublin this weekend

JOE

While a large number of people are beginning to open up about mental health, many still don’t know who to talk to.

Ireland has a wide range of organisations set up for those who have questions about mental health, one of which is See Change with their Green Ribbon campaign.

This Saturday in partnership with professionals from the College of Psychiatrists, See Change will host an informal walk and talk event in Merrion Square.

This event takes place at 1.30pm and is being held outdoors to promote wellness and activity.

Members of the public will get an opportunity to speak to professionals in an informal and supportive setting.

One of the psychiatrists, Dr John Hillery, said that the Walk and Talk event was the highlight of the College calendar last year.

“I was personally overwhelmed by how engaged and gracious all attendees were”

He is hoping that this weekend will be no different.

“With this event we hope, at a simple level, to have an enjoyable informative outing that gives the message that mental illness can be overcome.

A more lofty aim is to manifest the fact that Psychiatrists and other mental health professionals and patients are working together to ensure that mental illness can be overcome and that admitting to having mental distress is to be encouraged as interventions are available and not to be feared.”

Earlier this week Green Ribbon shared their twitter account with consultant psychiatrists Dr Hillery and Dr Mike Scully, from the College of Psychiatrists of Ireland, who discussed mental health recovery and answered questions about psychiatry.
